  • "What an absolute gem of a place. From the beautiful picture perfect building, to lush green surroundings and manicured lawns, this place is pure tranquility. Fabulous attention to detail, luxurious White Company towels, quality bed linen, an electric toothbrush charger built in to the bathroom wall, complimentary toiletries and ample tea and coffee. Fiona made us feel extremely welcome and produced a delicious full Cornish breakfast with their own home baked bread. There is nothing not to love. Seeing the beautiful ponies at the front of the Manor and the hilarious billy goats at the back, this place is perfect. A lovely place to sit in the garden, overlooking a lake and a giant chess board, you could while away the hours very happily. Highly recommend."

  • "Anyone who takes on a complete renovation of a listed building needs to be both brave and resourceful. If you see the state of the house when Fiona purchased it you will realise what a remarkable job she has done and continues to do so with the outbuilding conversions. Whilst the interior rightly has to retain its original character you won't lack for modern facilities. We stayed in the Simmons Room which is compact but everything one needs for a B&B. The bathroom is something else. If you want modern living the converted cottages are beautiful. Kirsty's breakfast included the locally sourced and homemade items that one always hopes for. Location wise both the north and south coast are readily accessible including the wonderful Trebah Gardens and lots of decent eateries within reasonable distance. If you want to unwind in a peaceful surrounding you'd be pushed to do better than stay at Cusgarne."

  • "A beautiful, peaceful location in the heart of Cornwall. Had the most perfect stay in the cottage, which is the ideal spot for those travelling with a hound. Fiona was so helpful and prompt on email and the cottage was a wonderful haven for both owner & dog....everything had been thought of. An ideal spot to explore both the North and South coast but also a perfect hideout away from the usual tourist traps and busy spots, amongst lush green pastures and beautiful horses."

  • Cycling on the Bissoe bike trail

    From the doorstep

Cusgarne Manor is surrounded by leafy lanes which are perfect for walking, off-road biking and horse riding. Local countryside routes can incorporate local pubs or old mining landscapes. We’re also close to the coast-to-coast trail between Devoran and Portreath with bike hire available from Bissoe. Wheal Maid, home of mountain bike competitions, is just over the hill and a more challenging route west will find you at the rocky top of Carn Marth where you’re rewarded by panoramic views of both coasts. We’re also just off the West Kernow Way, an incredible 143-mile circular bikepacking route which takes in many of the highlights of this part of the Cornish peninsula.

  • Walking the coast path past Wheal Coates

    The coasts

The north and south coasts are so very different and Cusgarne gives you the choice of both. Only a few miles to the north are the rugged Atlantic cliffs and the surfing beaches of Porthreath, Porthtowan, Chapel Porth, Trevaunance and Perranporth. A few miles south finds you at the calm waters of the Carrick Roads and Helford River and a quick trip on the King Harry Ferry takes you to the beautiful Roseland Peninsula.

  • View of a pretty street in St Mawes, Cornwall

    Towns to visit

Some of Cornwall’s prettiest harbour towns are nearby. Falmouth is always a favourite especially for the Sea Shanty and Oyster Festivals and the National Maritime Museum. Ferries from Falmouth take you across to the pretty village of Flushing or to St Mawes on the Roseland. Porthleven is also well worth a visit especially for it’s excellent selection of restaurants. The city of Truro is also nearby with its impressive cathedral and fabulous farmers’ markets.

  • Tropical plants at Trebah World Heritage Gardens

    Gardens

Cornwall is well-endowed with stunning gardens. In addition to the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project there are many much closer to Cusgarne. The National Trust’s Trelissick is set in over 300 acres of beautiful gardens and woodland with lovely walks and stunning views of the Carrick Roads estuary. Trebah, a sub-tropical ravine filled with rhododendrons, magnolias and camellias on the Helford River, is another must-see. We also have the lovely Enys nearby.
